The jury decided on a "Ghost Solution" to move forward the site of the school this past Thursday.
Academic and Spiritual Fellowship
Our vision for a secondary school in Fond-des-Blancs proceeds from a deep commitment to encouraging the individual pursuit of knowledge while simultaneously creating and maintaining a strong sense of community. “Community” exists at different scales — a dormitory house, the academic campus, and the overall society of Fond-des-Blancs. Regardless of whether a student is involved in an individual or communal pursuit, we beleive that their sense of fellowship as well as their sense of enlightenment should both be stimulated.
Our layout places the auditorium and cafeteria as the doorway both in and out of campus: the link to the wider community. Branching out from that and following along the edge of the river are the academic and residential areas. At the center of this spine lies the courtyard between the library and the auditorium, creating a dialogue between academia and fellowship. Through the library, access to the river is granted.
Our phasing plan puts the auditorium and cafe in first, as it includes classrooms, and the existing adjacent house will be used as a kitchen. Next will come two dormitories, two classroom modules, and the library. Lastly will come the last two classrooms and last dormitory.
The library serves as a place of reflection, mediating between the living and academic quarters. All the buildings have breezeways and gaps between walls and ceilings designed to maximize air flow. Also, windows allow for crosswinds to penetrate the builidngs.
